Scott HarrisA veteran missionary, Scott Harris became Avant’s vice president of field ministries in 2002. Before joining Avant, his missions career began with SIM at the ELWA Radio campus in Liberia. After evacuating from Liberia during a civil war in 1990, he joined SIM’s U.S. home staff. Scott served in various capacities for SIM including recruitment coordinator, assistant to the U.S. director, leadership development and director of information services and West Africa director. Scott graduated from Grace University in Omaha, Neb., in 1984 with a bachelor of science in Bible and has done graduate studies in organizational design and behavior at Pfieffer University in Charlotte, N.C. He has served as an associate pastor and interim senior pastor at Temple Baptist Church in Omaha, Neb., and as interim senior pastor at Community Bible Church in Sabetha, Kan. He and his wife, Jolyn, have two grown daughters and two grandsons.
