Russian: Volgograd Outreach

Current Need: $30,895
Project #71890

The Context
Believers Become Christ’s Hands and Feet to Help Fight Overwhelming Substance Abuse
When believers come to Christ, they are united forever with Him; they become a part of His adopted family, eternally. As God begins to work in their lives through their journey, they also develop and nurture relationships with other believers. In Russia, where less than two percent of the population is evangelical Christian, a community of believers is sparse. In towns with 100,000 people, if a local church is present, there are only 30 to 40 believers. This lack of community in Christ can be lonesome.

The Challenge
Ineffective Government, Medical Resources Prompt Local Missionaries to Open CenterAfter the fall of Communism, the Russian culture struggled to find balance in a time of newly-found freedom. As the country’s drug and substance abuse continues to be a growing problem, government and medical resources have consistently disappointed its own people. Consequently, people continue to face a social battle of spiritual depression and substance abuse.

A Solution
Russian Women to Gain Deliverance from Addictions Through Rehabilitation Center
While a church has existed in Kamyshin, Volgograd, since the Soviet times, the women and children need a center dedicated to alcohol and drug rehabilitation. Avant missionaries and local churches, hope to establish a local practical resource center to help free them from their addictions.

These strong addictions have placed many women in marginal areas of society. Manyneed shelter as they flee from violence or simply need assistance in the areas of food, clothing and jobs as they work to overcome their addictions and get back on their feet.

Local churches, Avant missionaries and trained Russian believers hope to rent a location for these hurting women and children. In addition to basic necessities such as shelter and food, the center will help provide spiritual counseling to guide these families to a relationship with Jesus Christ. The women who need these services are typically desperate. They have lost hope and many times come from a life of destitution. Some come from abusive relationships or are unable to leave their children and enter a rehabilitation center. If a center is developed in Kamyshin, the women can learn to find healing and strength in Christ and resist the pull of the world around them.

Your Difference
New Women’s Center to Aid in Helping Country’s Drug Epidemic
While government funding and support is minimal, the body of believers in the area are ready and willing to serve these hurting families. After the fall of Communism, Russia’s drug use exploded. These drug users are commonly turned away from hospitals and law officials often turn to locking up users or leaving them to die, rather than searching for help which is often nonexistent.
