Greece: Kypseli Church Plant and Ministry Center

Project #71961
Church Planting Europe Greece

Although traditionally a Christian nation, very few Greeks have an active personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In fact, the evangelical movement in Greece amounts to less than 0.3% of the population, only 30,000 out of 11 million people.

For over 20 years there has been little growth in the evangelical community. This has changed in the last several years, however, and there are currently six new evangelical church planting efforts in Athens among the Greeks. One of these efforts is the recently established Kypseli Church.

Kypseli is the most densely populated and second poorest neighborhood in the center of Athens. The population consists of 50% Greeks and 50% immigrants, some coming as refugees from countries in Africa and the Middle East. In this diverse and impoverished area, there is growing evidence of spiritual hunger and thirst. Many residents are in a time of life change and transition, making them more open and receptive to the gospel.

We desire to see more Greeks, immigrants and refugees come into a relationship with Jesus Christ, but our current rental space has reached its maximum capacity. We believe the best option for our church, so it can grow and better reach the Kyspeli community, is to purchase a building. The purchase of our own building will allow for multiplication, free up funds for ministry, and provide a multi-ethnic church home in an area where there was none.
