South Sudan: Discipleship Materials
After more than a century of missionary work in Africa, a challenge that continues to surface among churches is achieving self-sustainability. More specifically, churches in rural and impoverished communities, accounting for more than 70% of the population on the continent of Africa, remain handicapped in meeting their annual budgets. This challenge affects their capacity to develop healthy, reproducing churches that impact their communities for Christ.
Our workers in South Sudan have been working with local leaders to develop training that pairs theological and church planting education with biblical stewardship and entrepreneurship. The trainings cover all aspects of planting churches including evangelism, discipleship, spiritual warfare, trauma care, social-economic empowerment, biblical entrepreneurship, theology of work, community based banking, and stewardship. This is a unique model of church planting developed for extreme poverty contexts. We currently have leaders giving trainings across South Sudan and other neighboring countries. Each class graduates between 30-40 church leaders and pastors. Graduates who complete the one-year program receive a certificate and training manuals so they can go back to their communities and train others. Imagine the multiplication that is taking place here!
Through this project, Avant will assist with the cost of printing and distributing 2,000 training outlines ($8.50 each), manuals ($12.00 each), and discipleship materials ($12.00 each). Your gift to this project will equip local pastors with resources to help communities thrive and advance the Kingdom of God in places where there is no church.
