Equipping Spanish Believers to Reach Spain with the Gospel

The Whitsons have been with Avant since 2025. They are called to serve at Instituto Bíblico y Seminario Teológico de España (IBSTE) in Barcelona. Luke will teach Old Testament and Hebrew classes at the Seminary and disciple young people to build up the Church in Spain.

Shortly after following Jesus in 2010, Luke felt called to teach the Bible. While he didn’t know if it would be from a pulpit, in a classroom, or at a kitchen table, he knew he wanted to faithfully steward God’s Word to the best of his ability. This led him to pursue an MDiv in Biblical Languages and eventually a PhD in Biblical Studies. Luke teaches Old Testament and Hebrew courses at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Mallory felt a call to cross cultural ministries early in her faith, but similarly didn’t know what that would look like. She earned her Bachelor’s in Music Education in voice in 2013 and went on to teach middle school choir. In 2022, she began work at a pregnancy resource center working with women facing unplanned pregnancies. She’s excited to see how God will use her in Spain!

The Whitsons currently live in Kansas City with their three children: Beatrice, Ezeriah, and Reuben.  They are members at Hope Community Church. In their free time, they love music, reading, baking, and playing games!
