The Little Things Matter

"We may not always hear God or get it right every time, but He desires to be involved in every aspect of our lives and He will take us on great adventures if we seek to follow His lead."

Something I read one evening challenged me to bring every little decision before God, no matter how trivial it seems. The next morning, I got up early to go for a run. I started running with a route in mind, but asked God where He wanted me to go. I immediately had a different destination come to mind and switched my route to head in that direction. Shortly afterward I passed a bus stop where a homeless man was sleeping on the bench in the bus shelter. The thought, “Buy him a pastry” popped into my head. I didn’t know if it was from God or not, but I prayed, “Ok God, sure. Then show me a bakery, because the closest one I know of is a little far away.” I started running in the direction of said bakery, but just a little further down the street I happened upon another bakery I didn’t even know existed. I went in and purchased a pastry, and I couldn’t help but smile when I saw they were selling a special loaf called ‘The Canadian’.

I jogged back to the bus stop, and started to wonder if the man would still be there, or what to do if he was still sleeping. I don’t know why I was worried, since I was fairly certain God had planned the whole thing. I wasn’t wrong. I found the man sitting up, sipping a cup of coffee. No food in sight. I offered him the pastry, wished him a good day and went on my way. The look on his face was priceless, and I almost cried. It was breakfast time and I had shown up right on time with his breakfast! I was simply acting as God’s delivery service that morning, but it sure felt wonderful. It was a powerful reminder to me of how God is just waiting for us to ask Him where to go and what to do in each moment. We may not always hear Him or get it right every time, but He desires to be involved in every aspect of our lives and He will take us on great adventures if we seek to follow His lead.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.” ~ Ephesians 6:18-19

  • Pray that we would be aware of those that the Lord places in our path each day.
  • Pray that we might be purposeful in our conversations and know that the little things matter.
