Mountains to Move

"We believe in a God who moves mountains. He opens doors that no one else can. He invites us to trust Him, to follow, even when the way is steep and uncertain..."

Why the Unreached are Unreached

A Dream Months in the Making

We had planned and strategized for months. Flights were researched, gear packed, and maps studied. Finally, we had our tickets in hand—our long-awaited trip to the remote mountain villages was a go. These villages sit in the most inaccessible district of the country. There are no roads. The only way in is to either hike for nearly a week after a grueling three-day bus ride or fly into a tiny mountain airstrip clinging to the edge of a cliff.

We chose to fly.

Cancelled Plans and Unexpected Opportunities

But just a week before our departure, we got the dreaded call: our flight was cancelled due to “technical difficulties.” No other flights were available, and our backup plans collapsed one after the other. Eventually, with heavy hearts, we cancelled the trip. The hard truth began to sink in—these people are unreached for a reason. They live far off the beaten path, often completely cut off from modern transportation or infrastructure.

Still, even in disappointment, we felt God prompting us not to give up. The next day, out of the blue, a travel agent called with news: a new flight had opened up, and there were seats available. We took it as a sign from the Lord and jumped on the opportunity.

Touchdown on the Edge of the World

A village in the mountains. The flight through narrow mountain passes was as nerve-racking as it was breathtaking. The airstrip looked like a ribbon stitched into the mountainside, but we landed safely and made our way to a local tea house. There, the owner invited us to his family’s village for a meal and a look at traditional life. It turned into an unforgettable experience—driving on precarious cliff-hugging roads to reach the village, being welcomed like old friends, and sharing a meal of rice, lentils, and goat.

While we had learned the national trade language, it quickly became clear that many of the villagers didn’t speak it at all. Their language, customs, and worldview were completely different. That’s when it hit us: reaching people in places like this would take more than a visit. It would mean years of language study, cultural immersion, and a patient, faithful presence.

A Spiritual Stronghold

After the meal, our new friend led us up the hill to the local Buddhist monastery. The small stone building was covered in colorful paintings, and an elderly woman sat outside, spinning a prayer wheel. Inside, the room was filled with incense, candles, and statues. Centuries of devotion to a worldview that rejects outside influence stands like stone walls shutting out the gospel of hope. This was more than a cultural barrier—it was a spiritual fortress. Returning to the tea house, we silently reflected on the truth that only God could break through here. Only He could open eyes and hearts.

That evening, we were reminded once again just how unpredictable and fragile access to this region could be. We were told that if we didn’t leave on the next morning’s flight, we’d likely be stuck in the mountains for at least another week. It drove home the reality that reaching people here requires flexibility, quick decisions, and creative strategies to make the most of whatever small windows of opportunity God provides. We packed up and left early the next morning.

Mountains Seen and Unseen

Back in the city, more tough news awaited us. We would not be allowed to renew our visa to stay. Our long-term plan to relocate to the mountains was, for now, out of reach—unless we started an expensive business just to stay in the country. Another closed door. Another reminder that in many places around the world, sharing the gospel requires more than passion; it demands creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to wear many hats.

The obstacles—geographical, cultural, political—can seem like mountains. But often, the tallest mountains are the invisible ones guarding people’s hearts and minds. Centuries of religious tradition, spiritual deception, and fear stand in the way. And, honestly, it is impossible.

Trusting the God Who Moves Mountains

But we believe in a God who moves mountains.

He opens doors that no one else can. He invites us to trust Him, to follow, even when the way is steep and uncertain, because He hasn’t forgotten these people. He longs for His Church to be planted in places where His name has never been heard. And He’s not finished writing this story.

Ways to Pray

  • Pray that God would work in the hearts of the extremely closed Mountain Peoples and that one day they would come to know Him as their Savior.
  • Pray that God would remove the barriers for His ambassadors trying to access this location.
