Romania: Evangelistic Corn Truck
Traditionally, Romania is an Eastern Orthodox country. However, remnants of atheistic communism continue to infiltrate the worldview of many Romanians. They know about God, but many are simply following empty religious traditions that never permeate their lives. This is due in part to conflicting perceptions of religion, and intense clashes to continue in either extreme of orthodoxy or atheism. Confusion abounds, and though many are searching for God, there are few who are able to clearly explain the gospel to them.
Our workers in Romania have begun a creative evangelistic project in which they plant, grow, and harvest sweet corn to distribute all over the region with the goal of presenting Christ to those who don’t know Him. Our workers partner with churches and Christian ministries in the region who receive sweet corn free of charge to then give away through outreach events. Corn is also given to widows and those struggling to feed their families. The corn is always delivered in person by our missionaries to make connections, build relationships, and share the gospel.
Last year, over 5,000 people were reached with the gospel through this sweet corn ministry. This is the second year this ministry will be carried out. Last year, 2.5 acres of corn were grown and harvested. This year, we’ve doubled the amount, distributing 5 acres of corn to those in need. As this outreach grows, the need for more suitable transportation is critical. Avant has created a project to help purchase a truck that will transport the sweet corn, enabling our missionaries and the church in Romania to serve more people, build more relationships, and share the gospel more broadly.
